Sixth Sunday of Easter – John
14:23-39
Today Jesus continues his promises to his disciples. He says, “Anyone who loves me will obey
me. If you do this, my Father also will
love you and we will come to you and live in you. Anyone who does not love me will not obey me.”
Then Jesus assures his disciples that the Father will send
the Holy Spirit to them to help them and enlighten them. He also says that they will be gifted with His
peace, a peace that the world is not able give.
Peace is a wondrous gift.
If we truly have the peace that only Jesus can give, we can deal with
most any circumstance that life throws at us.
The peace of Jesus enables us to believe that He is with us in good
times and in difficult times. If we
trust that Jesus is gifting us with peace, then we can move forward knowing
that we are not alone. Hopefully, we
also will have the support of the people in our lives, but a sense of Jesus’
comfort and strength will enable us to move forward and trust that we will be
okay. We trust that in the future that
life will once again hold happiness and peace.
Today sit quietly for 5-10 minutes and simply be at peace. Let go of your thoughts and your
worries. Simply rest in God; rest with
Jesus.
